Sup guys, Its been some time since i last post here. Few weeks back, I manage to get a hold of X2 3800+ 939 Toledo. Plugged on my board, theres some weird sound when booting up. And even at stock bios settings, I cant run F@H SMP client (BSOD)
I emailed to EPOX tw support team, and here it goes (replies goes bottom to up) --------------------------------------------------- Subject: RE: 9NDA3+_CPU_G0882-1_high pitch sound_W
Dear Sir / Madam If you remove it,the board can support new core CPU. If you do not remove it ,the board for CPU support will be limited . You can send your board to dealer for help to do RMA repair .

Hi How safe is for me to remove the diode? Is it possible for the board no longer boot up after removing it?
Rgds, Nizam

OK, I already cut off one of the diode leg. So far I can run F@H SMP windows client. However the high pitch sound is still there when booting up the pC. Let see how long my rig can last befor it reboots/bsod Posts: 26 | From: malaysia | Registered: Feb 2006
I also have an Epox 9nda3+ (with the diode), and am trying to run an Athlon X2 3800+ on it. It boots and all, but Vista can't tell what processor I'm using, and so one core won't run.
Unfortunately, Epox's customer service has lagged recently. Their website is now broken for many purposes. You can't even download the EP-9nda3+ drivers any more.

Thanks for the welcome and the info, aeronx. I suspected that Epox had met its end when I went to epox.com looking for the BIOS update. Luckily, I found you guys.
I got the most recent 9nda3+ BIOS drivers (9nd36607.bin) from your driver repository. I tried to use the program MagicBIOS 1.8 which I grabbed from my the 9nda3+ CD, but I think MagicBIOS won't run on 64-bit OSes, and I'm running 64-bit Vista. (Which was a waste of time and money, don't bother!) MagicBIOS gives me an error message telling me to change an option in the BIOS before it can run, but that option is not there.
Unfortunately, I still need to update to the most current BIOS, as I think that should allow my Athlon X2 to be recognized. Can I use some generic BIOS updating tool? Does anyone know how I can get this file into the BIOS? Thank you!
As a sidebar, do you think my non-OC'd Athlon 3800+ 64 X2 will be ok running with the stock fan/heatsink from my old Athlon 64 3500+?
Edit: Also, awdflash.exe, which you guys included with the driver, straight-up gave me an error message that it was not compatible with 64-bit OSes. So that's out, too.

On a slightly different note, has anyone heard of the code 43 error issue with nForce3 motherboards, AMD dual-core processors, and Vista?
When you have this combination of hardware, the display adapter is unable to load the drivers to run 3D, along with a few other "high performance" activities. It is the northbridge that is at fault,(apparently something to do with memory addressing on dual-core systems) but nVidia has stated they will not be releasing any updates for the nForce3 chipsets, which is pretty awful when you think about it.
So, my question is: e-jump, are you running Vista? Does this diode trick somehow help this issue? Or, does anyone know a way to fix this, other than abandoning my 939 motherboard?

No, im not on Vista (XP SP2). This diode trick is to increase stability when running dual core to the fullest. Before cutting out the diode, my board was still able to detect my X2. im on 35915 bios, as its more stable than the 2006's one. But im stuck at 250Mhz. Either my X2 or my ddr500 is the culprit ;__;

I have noticed some visual glitches on the POST screen with the 36607 bios, so maybe I'll roll back to 35915 as well, since that's when they introduced dual-core support.
But this issue is not with the bios, it's with the nForce3 drivers. It appears that I'll either have to go back to single-core, XP, or get a new motherboard. Thanks anyway.
