I recently bought the Biostar Tpower X58 motherboard along with a i7 940 processor and 6 gigs of G.Skill memory. I'm currently running this memory at a frequency of 1067 only because there is no option under Dram Frequency under the O.N.E tab in the Bios for 1333.

I'm kinda getting the feeling that I need to update the Bios. Which is the best way to flash the Bios, through windows or using the USB method?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, this is my first post here. [Big Grin]

Welcome to The Rebels Haven!

The USB method is the best. Visit the "Drives Sector" for a sticky on how to set up the USB flash drive/data stick....

Hiya captkirk!

Nice to see ya here. I have the latest BIOS installed IX58C10.BSP dated 12/12/08 and I didn't see a 1333mhz option with the latest BIOS. I haven't really looked into yet.

Can anyone tell me if the IX58AC25.BST BIOS is any different that the current Bios in my motherboard or the IX58C10.BSP.

This picture illustrates what I'm seeing.

Is this problem I'm having because the Bios is lacking memory frequency options or the X58 motherboard is not compatible with the G.Skill memory I bought?

Does IX58AC25 add the 1333mhz option for the RAM?

It only says:

BIOS for TPower X58
Release Date 2008/12/25
Update Description:
1. Added bootflash screen prompts.

That's all I have also. I think you need the 965 to get more.

Also change log for all BIOS is on the page I linked.

I just asked the question over at Corsair. I bet others don't have the 1333mhz option.

Polygon, Can you think of a reason why the 920 and/or 940 wouldn't have that option?

We have two member in our gaming clan that just bought i7 boards. Two of the Asus X58 boards. I'll check with them tonight to see if they have the 1333mhz option for the RAM. I believe one bought the 920 and the other the 940 CPU.

Intel Core i7s 920 and 940 only support DDR3 1066, shown there.

the 965 EE is the only one that supports DDR3 1333.

That seems to be half the problem, no what do I do to OC the board to correct the memory frquency?

The memory controller is in the CPU on these Processors, and it's quite possible that only the 965 has the 1333 availble or that it works...

920 and 940 may be fall-outs of the basic line. Intel doesn't make 3 parts. They make 1 chip and usually grade them on power dissapation at certain speeds.

I'll look at the data sheet today. Who knows, maybe I can mod the BIOS to add it in or back in...

Does ASUS or Gigabyte have the 1333 with 920/940 CPU's??

Here's the 2 controlling registers from the Core i7 datasheet. The first is a read-only telling the motherboard what it's max DIMM speed is.

The second may be able to control the clock by changing the register that is listed...

Using ReadWriteEverything or H.ODA's WPRCEDIT, if someone could try entering a Ah in the register 54h, Device 3, Function 4, we will know if it's even possible to modify the BIOS....

I was told over at the Corsair Forums that the Asus P6T Deluxe does. I was was told by one of my gaming clan members who just bought an Asus X58 with a 920CPU that 1333mhz was available in the BIOS.

But if the memory is controlled by the CPU, as you have said. It would seem limited by the CPU, unless the CPU could be unlocked.
