At first: the K7S8X Cool!BIOS 2.52A by honey X & guni runs very well! My cpu temp went from 47-50 degrees celcius to 36-39 degrees. Stunning!!!
However there's (still) a problem with the USB ports. (as with the former BIOS: 2.6). I' ve got a HP printer and a logitech MX700 mouse attached to it, but every time I try to connect an Ipod mini, the mouse freezes. Disconnecting the Ipod doesn't solve the situation, only a reset gets the machine back to normal. When I hook up the Ipod through a self powered USB 1.1 hub however, there's no problem at all (except the speed of the USB traffic is lowered of course). Generic drivers don't help. I guess this mobo cant't deliver enough power to the USB ports to keep them working correctly and stable. Anyone else had this kind of trouble and found a way to overcome this?

Unfortunately, on the K7 series boards, the USB2.0 is way too underpowered and/or badly implemented. Some claimed using the USB drivers from SiS helped, but that was not my experience. My fixes were a USB2.0 hub (still some occasional probs if booting with an external HDD attached....) and a USB 2.0 card I was given. You can try swapping ports around, but it didn't work for me
So, to answer your questions, yes, and no......

Same problem here.Have a SoloTech tower with two additional USB slots infront. My USB mouse is connected to one of the back USB slots together (sometimes when needed)with a nec dvd writer. When i insert my USB-memory stick in one of the front slots, my mouse freezes , too .
Any other solutions found by now?

johnmalc is right. Also another solution would be a good power supply with a very steady 5V line. I'm having no troubleshooting here using this board with cool bios. I have used by now a genius 800dpi mouse, an iPod shuffle, an 256MB USB stick, a casio camera and a motorola c650 mobile phone. Most of them I've used at the same time. Also my machine is folding almost 24h/day(when I'm not playing some games), so the CPU is most of the time in full load. So I might say that there are some other problems.

In my case, I have permanently connected a USB ADSL modem, a USB keyboard & mouse combo, and a PCI gigabit LAN controller.
If I plug in a USB2 key (memory stick) *before* ever connecting to the LAN or to ADSL/internet after a reboot, everything works fine.
If I do it afterwards, my USB keyboard/mouse freeze - they actually get powered down.
I have tried unchecking the "allow the computer to turn off this device" for all USB root hubs to no effect.
However, I have found that I can get the USB keyboard working again by unplugging/replugging it once the USB key has been disconnected (rather than rebooting).
My conclusion is that there is more to it than a power issue (if any).
All your crashs or freezes where USB devices are the problem..... well...the problem is CPU HALT and not the PSU believe me Flash the last asrock official bios and all your problems gone with the wind CPU HALT is not a safe option and cause compatibility issues...
personally I will not use CPU HALT anymore cause my computer is happy and stable and I have a USB webcam that can't be used with CPU HALT

That's my point. Normally the PSU's can take it, but with the CPU HALT function enabled the PSU get's overloaded. I assume this because I use the COOLBIOS and I have used several usb devices withouth problems. I'm not saying that the PSU is bad. It's just that it does not like the freq of the cycles that HLT@idle has. Both CPU and USB use the same power line wich I assume it drops below the safe line and the USB ports are closed for safety. The PCI USB card gets the power from the 3.3V so I assume that it does not have that issue. I't might be a problem with a problem with modems since I hear a lot of people complain and I don't have such a device. Try an experiment. Use cbid and from the "tweaks" tab change the "C1, C2 to a lower value(8). Then check your problems again. And U can use the .L version of Coolbios, wich has not halt@idle enabled. This way U can get the performance and the new sata module.
