hi

I have been using cool bios on my k7s41gx since long time ago without problems..but now
I purchased a webcam...
exactly a Logitech express USB cam
I discovery that this cam not works with cool bios
version gx2.00h.rom
My computer freezes after a few seconds after this
webcam is started and of course webcam is unusuable
(Im sure that cool bios trash something on the USB side)
This not happen using any of the official asrock' bios
Also after return to official bios I discoverd that using cool bios with HALT the noise of my hardisk is listen on the speakers
yes...noise of my hardisk go through speakers
so...there's a problem filtering noise as well

I returned to the last asrock official bios 2.0
CPU is more hot of course but my computer works better
My config:
K7s41gx,athlon xp 2400,WinXP SP2,geforce 4 TI,512mb

bye, Laser

btw, any1 have similar problems with cool bios?

Hi Aldo,
try using software to enable halt idle instruction.
Go http://cbid.amdclub.ru/ go to downloads and search for prcnm.Easy to use thingy [Smile]
After download just put a shortcut in the startup folder in start menu.Dont forget to edit the .ini file.
Hope it helps.
EDIT:Yes i had a similar prob with K7S8X r3.0(the sound crackling)

Hello Aldo!
It's known to be a beta BIOS, so problems apear with diffrent hardware. It will probably stay this way forever.
I suspect that all your problems are caused by a bad combiation between PSU and mobo and the fast cycle for halt and on again. The board has one bad power supply circuit. Both USB and HDD use the 5V line from your PSU to get power. The CPU also gets the power from 5V. The halt@idle acts on the CPU alimentation circuit, so the stress is getting too high. In other words the PSU might not handle it. To get a new PSU there is no criteria since some good ones can't handle it either.
U could try to use the version without HALT@idle(the one with L at the end) since it could improve the performance.

thanks guys for the extra info !

btw,Mentas,

I have downloaded and tested that little proggy
version 1.5 and it works here
thanks for the link !
I don't changed config file cause I don't understand that parametrs but
it performs very well cpu halt with default option

but I have the same problem -> my webcam not works
if I use that proggy..my computer freezes again
so the problem of my webcam was cpu halt and not the cool bios
and the conclusion is that the only bug of cool bios is the bad noise through speakers
anyways
I think that cpu halt is not a safe & stable option
and can cause many others bugs...who knows where
or which device can be afeccted
That's why on all motherboards cpu halt option comes disabled by default
maybe I will use that proggy on hot summer days when the cpu is very hot

planoru,

yes, maybe my power supply is the problem
who knows
it's a 4 years old 350w psu
but it's working very fine
I don't consider a replace until I get a new one
for test first and check if the psu is the problem
or not
I will check that soon and I will post here the results

well..thanks for all guys

bye, Aldo
