Yes I have a M848ALU 2.1. The M848 is the exact same PCB as the L7A7 you have. Only the stuffing and chipset are different, they are actually going back to the SiS746 chipset with the rev 5 board...
The other thing that sucks about the M848 is that the bios IC is surface mount and yours is in a socket...
Bad flashes are REALLY BAD!
AMIBOOT from the K7S5A ezboard has an Alpha bios for the L7S7A2/M848 board...it is untested at this point...

Is that right ? I never knew that about the socket I thought PC Chips M848ALU would be a better board with better support .
Yes I noticed the new BIOS in AMIBOOT's webpage , but I dont think I will use it . I had bad luck when I changed the K7S5A BIOS to one of his , not that I am blaming him for one minute But I really had no need to change BIOS's then and I cant really think of any reason to change one now , if you get what I mean lol.
I priced a M848ALU board new in the US on ebay and they want $39.99 US for the M/B and $52.24 US freight . Not for me .
But the L7S7A2 board is OK , I wouldnt mind another one , so I am keeping my eye out for one on ebay .
cheers

I have bought another K7S5A rev 3.1 , dont know what BIOS it has , but with my understanding of EEPROM, if I just swap that from one board to another of the same type it should transfer the BIOS settings . Is that right ?
cheers

Thanks for that info Matt , On my old K7S5A rev 3.1 it has the second that you pictured PDIP and the K7S5A is also a rev 3.1 that I got off a bloke on ebay , so we will see if its the same .
cheers

Received my "new" K7S5A rev 3.1 , cranked it up runs OK and to check EEPROM from my old K7S5A swapped it over and it runs perfect , saving me the trouble of setting up the honey x OC BIOS again as I only had the ECS Official BIOS in the "newie" . Still havn't given up on my old K7S5A , but at least I have it clear in my own mind that it wasnt a crook BIOS that caused its demise , but some damage on the board that was most probably caused by my screwdriver accident .

I scratched a socket 7 motherboard years ago. After that I took some credit cards and made various size pieces that would fit under the socket lugs to protect the motherboard if I slipped. I have one piece I have used for years. Also, I keep a selection of screwdrivers with various size tips on them also. Glad to hear you got another motherboard.
I am new here. Nice forums.

There were always scary moments with those Socket A heatsinks... I slipped many-a-time, but never borked the board... Good idea with the credit cards....
Anyhow, welcome aboard....
