I know this is a common situation with drivers, I just never asked before! You find an obscure driver and download it and then un-zip it. You have 3 or 4 files-no installer-no .txt file. Just something on the order of....*.inf, *.sys, *.dat, *.cat. You know what I'm talking about. I know where an *.inf file usually goes but what about the others? I figured it's about time I learned this one.

I don't know if this works anymore, but right clicking the .inf shows a "install" option. That is how we use to install certain programs in W95/98.

Now that you mention that one, I remember it. How much ya wanna bet we are to 'sophisticated' for it to work now. But no way to know until you try.

I happen to be loading W95 on a P3 system right now and got to the point of installing the NIC. So I tried the right click .inf install and nothing happened! I had to point the Hardware Manager to the .inf file for the NIC. I guess it only works on certain programs....

I confirm, it doesn't always work. In old days while "experiencing" I sometimes ended with drivers half-installed. The SURE way was for me to install by pointing through DeviceManager.
