Windows stability is proving to be difficult on the ABIT A8N-Ultra... Got half way thru a SuperPI run and Windows BSOD'ed... Gonna switch to the DFI when I muster up some energy....

Hate to make things worse, but the Abit is AN8...the Asus is A8N. [Smile]

I think you`re being too optimistic with the clocks....?

Nice results so far, I will be curious to see what is stable in windows [Smile]

Glad to see someone else jumping on these excellent CPU's!

Suspecting the ABIT was having issues with TCCD memory at 300, I switched to BH-5 @ 166 1T 2-2-2-5... Vcore: 1.55V; 10X300. Here's 1st Windows data:

In trying to get the Opteron system stable in Windows, a fuller understanding of the limits is needed...

I've tried:

1) TCCD @ 10X300 200 2T 2.5-4-3-7
2) BH-5 @ 10X300 166 1T 2-2-2-5
3) TCCD @ 11X273 200 1T 2.5-3-3-7

The 1st 2 are taxing the memory to their limit on the AN8-Ultra and as such, not too stable.... While the 3ed is lower FSB, the CPU at 3Gig and the slightly tighter timings make this the combination of choice. The Vdimm was 2.9V and probably could have gone lower, but the Vcore needed to be 1.60V to be stable... Right now I'm not SuperPI 32 Million Calcs stable and Prime surely won't run too long as I'm getting a 15°C temp rise at full load... The DFI nF4 running this CPU will probably change things around.

More as it develops. Here is a new personal SuperPI record for the ABIT AN8-Ultra:

I was going to geta 3000 Venice Chip for my next rig and try and get around 2.7Ghz on water. Am i better getting Opteron Chip to achieve this.

No question in my mind that the Opteron is the CPU of choice... The Opteron is the "64 Bit Barton"...

I second that! Even my "worst" chip could only do 2.6GHz... on stock voltage! I would think that 2.7GHz is a VERY reasonable goal for any opteron, especially under water. Also keep in mind that the 1MB cache does add around 5% or more performance over a similar clocked Venice (512K) core CPU. So even if you only got 2.6GHz, it would be equivalent to a 2.7GHz+ Venice.

Just make sure you have a good motherboard under it!
